Electrically conductive compounds
Witcom’s electrically conductive compounds are used for solving problems related to the build-up of electrostatic charges, protection from electrostatic discharges (ESD) or electromagnetic interference. These compound can offer electrical properties from antistatic through conductive, to EMI-shielding (100 – 1012 Ohm/sq).
Permanent Anti-Static Compounds (109 – 1011)
Provide a very slow decay of static charge, minimize tribological charging from (low speed) movements, preventing accumulations that may be a source of discharge or insulate against moderate to high leakage currents. These compounds are available in a broad range of colors and are also able to meet the ATEX norms (<109).
Static Dissipative (106 – 109) and Conductive Compounds (102 – 105)
Static Dissipative compounds allow the dissipation or decay of electrical charges at a much faster rate than anti-static materials. While conductive compounds will provide a grounding path for charge bleed-off. These compounds dissipate tribo-charging from high speed motion.
EMI/RFI Shielding Compounds (101 to 104)
Blocking high electrostatic discharge voltages from damaging electronic components and shield against electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. More information can be found here.
Using Witcom compounds will have the following benefits:
- Greater design freedom not to be found with metals
- Weight reduction because of the lower density
- Improved reliability due to a better corrosion resistance
- Parts are easier and more cost-effective to manufacture
- Compared to surface coated plastic parts, moldings in our plastic compounds eliminate problems related to scratching, denting and chipping.
We use different additives to obtain the request results, such as carbon fibers, carbon powder, stainless steel fibers, nanotubes or special antistatic agents. Each additive has his own pro’s and con’s. Like conductivity, colorability, carbon sloughing and the influence on mechanical properties.
Depending on your requirements, the compounds can not only be supplied with an electrical resistivity, but also with enhanced mechanical and/or tribological properties and/or flame retardancy. This on the basis of almost all available thermoplastic polymers and for both injection molding and extrusion applications.
