Radar absorbing materials for the automotive industry

In the 90´s, the first radar sensor systems, such as parking aid, collision warning and adaptive cruise control (ACC), were installed in US cars. Since then manufacturers have continued to develop better systems. In the meantime such systems are not only in use in the premium segment, you can find them in nearly every newly produced car. Because of interference with other electrical devices there is a need for Radar Absorbing thermoplastic compounds.

The first radar-absorbing material based on PA6 was developed by the Wittenburg Group back in 2005. Nowadays we offer several customized radar-absorbing materials based on different polymers, like PP, PBT, PC with different reinforcements. Even soft, TPE- based, radar-absorbing materials for pedestrian protection shields are available. In most of the current cars our material is already in use.
